Some times the best photographs happen away from the focus. This image was captured during the wedding formals of the Okland Wedding at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa for this November wedding that found the day to be quite windy, but sunny.
The focus of formals is on efficiently and quickly capturing all the wedding formals before the ceremony. This involves capturing not only the wedding party, but also the families. Everyone wants formals, but no one likes to sit through them, so I quickly and efficiently manage the flow. Having an assistant/second photographer is a great asset during this period. My daughter Trisha has been my second. When she is not assisting with arranging the gown or getting people into place, she keeps her eye out for candids. This is one of the ones she spotted and captured. I love this image! A very nice capture of the bride with her beautiful gown in the foreground as it flows down the steps of the alter. In the background is the groom in a relaxed and natural pose. He is captured in a contemplative pose while admiring his lovely bride to be. There are so many things to love about this image.
